Comprehensive Instruction in Sasang Medicine (Mentorship Course)
Course Dates: Ongoing (Inquire below)

NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE!!

Whereas Korea has made numerous contributions to the history of Oriental Medicine, its development of a constitutional approach could arguable be its greatest influence. Translated as Four Constitutional Medicine, the Sasang method is the most extensively practiced form of Oriental Medicine in Korea today. This unique method, rooted in the I Ching and Confucian classics, was developed by a Korean scholar named Lee Je-ma, and was first revealed in his text entitled, Dong Eui Su Sei Bo Won (Eastern Perspectives on Longevity and Health Preservation).  According to this approach, each individual is classified into one of four major constitution types (Tae Yang, So Yang, Tae Eum, So Eum) depending on the relative strengths and weaknesses of each organ. Treatment is based on promoting a balance between these organ energies through diet, herbs, exercise and counseling.

This course aims to familiarize students with comprehensive Sasang theory, clearly differentiate between Sasang and Traditional Chinese Medicine, and facilitate the integration of basic constitutional concepts into their practice. A connection will be established between core theories of the I Ching, Confucian theory, and Sasang Medicine. Students can brush up on their herbal skills as this course reviews several formulae written by Zhang Zhong Jing, Lee Dong Yuan, Zhu Gong and others who have contributed significantly to the development of Sasang Medicine.
